How to photograph in low light conditions
Low-light photography can be defined as taking photos in dimly lit and dark environments. It requires special equipment and techniques. The main challenges are controlling exposure, white-balance, and sharpness. Two types of low-light photography exist: ambient or flash. Flash photography works well when there is sufficient light around you. A flash is required if there isn’t enough light. If your subject is outdoors but indoors, you might not have enough light to take a great picture without a flash. If you don't want to use a flash, try shooting at night during the moonlit hours. This will allow you to get nice shadows and colors. Another option is to shoot during twilight. Twilight is the time when the sun has set and there's still daylight.
You may also want to experiment with long exposures. Long exposures enable you to take images even after your shutter has been open for several seconds. When the shutter remains closed, the camera records only light that falls on the sensor. This light will continue to fall onto your sensor after a long exposure.
